Difesa Della Natura (Nature's Defence) is an original b/w photograph representing the indoor of the Marino Gallery (in Mignanelli Square, Rome) where Joseph Beuys' exhibition was held. This photo was very likely realized after 1984, with no doubt by Buby Durini, as the stamp demontrates. In excellent conditions. On the back, the black-ink stamp "Foto Buby Durini" with all the contact details (address, telephone number) at the center. Background: Invited by the spouses Lucrezia De Domizio and Buby Durini, Joseph Beuys arrived in Bolognano (Pescara) in 1972. Here, he carried out a series of artistic activities, including the foundation of the Institute for the Rebirth of Agriculture (1976), the creation of the Paradise Plantation with the planting of 7000 plants for the restoration of biodiversity (1982), and the work Olivestone (1984). In 1984, he became an honorary citizen of Bolognano. Joseph Beuys has always considered art an instrument of social action, reserving a prophetic attention to environmental and sustainability issues. The Shaman of Art, inaugurated an exceptional artistic and philosophical work in Bolognano on 13 May 1984, on the occasion of the planting of the first Italian Oak, prototype of the 7000 Lichen of Kassel, in the Paradise Plantation in Bolognano. For Beuys, man and environment are inseparable and interdependent. Defending nature means defending man, reversing the production logic in favor of a free and widespread creativity, capable of redeeming every human being from his condition of subjection and helping them to rediscover their own profound identity. There is a beautiful essay called Defense of Nature written by Lucrezia De Domizio Durini, the historic collaborator of the German master for his greatest works.
